In the 20s a famous tennis placer becomes number one worldwide as well as recognized for his persistence and tenacity.  He is Jean Rene Lacoste a French tennis player and creator of the emblematic Lacoste brand.

Rene, considered an innovative person, officially launched in 1933 the brand Lacoste, named thus by his last name.  The first item on sale and that also debuted with an advertising campaign was the polo shirt with the famous crocodile embroidery.  The brand icon was born from the nickname given to the player during the 20s by a journalist, it was “The Alligator” and it referred to a bet for a crocodile suitcase between the tennis player and his trainer.
